Okay - somebody needs to start a discussion about SOMETHING!

So - how many times did we girls get in trouble because our skirts were too short?  The indignity of kneeling on the floor and being measured!!!

And how many of you guys get swats by Coach Burton?  Too many to count.

I remember finding out that Mrs. Gale was going to be away for some faculty meeting, so I could get away with wearing my shortest, cutest navy a-line ! Unfortunately, my locker was right across the hall from the offices and whoever was 'in charge' that day must have been alerted that this sort of thing might happen..

I was called in the office, had to 'assume the position', was found in violation...and worst of all, had to call my MOTHER to come & pick me up, go home & change!

It was my LAST violation, believe me. And as I think about things today, rules about a skirt a few inches above the knee..a little hair brushing the top of a collar..the sight of a bare sandaled foot seem so out of place in this crazy world ...and I wish I was back there..!!

I was such a goody two shoes that I seldom got my skirts measured, but I did have a dress that was a slim fitting sheath, and had a flared out skirt at the bottom.  With a small belt LOW, near the flare.  I could inch up the skirt, and tighten the little belt, when I wanted it shorter.  I had done that, and forgotten about it, when I strolled into the hallway to the gym.  BUSTED!  I had to kneel down for the measure.  Humilitating.  But I was able to push the dress down, so that the skirt was longer.  I passed the test.  But I never forgot the embarrassment of that moment.  So much for being a rebel.

None by Coach Burton. Far too many to recall, administered by Coaches Jesse and Foster Martin and Mr. Burch(AVP) lurking the hallways, always finding a reason that he thought  I deserved a visit to his office. For some reason I believe my pal Jim Bartels, who worked in Mr. Burchs' office, may have been behind this injustice.

Used to roll up waist of my skirt, in Mr. West's homeroom, making my skirt shorter......he sent me to Mrs Gale, and on the way I unrolled the waist to make skirt longer......

Ms. Gale would send me back to class, saying skirt was long enough....so I rolled it back up before re-entering Mr. West's classroom....He'd get this furious look on his face, like Mrs. Gale had lost her marbles.  I pulled this several times!  Thought it was hilarious back then, watching Mr. West scratch his head.
