Mary Alice Wagnon Westlund (we knew her as Alice) died Septemer 17, 2010 from pneumonia in Canby, Oregon. She was very active in choir and drama, and was Maria in West Side Story opposite Patrick Swayze in 1969. She was also Trumpet Patrician for the Imperial Guard.

Canby resident Mary Alice Westlund died on Sept. 17, at age 59; the cause of death was severe pneumonia.

She was born on June 8, 1951, to parents Joe Dan Wagnon and Bobbie Jo Wagnon in Odessa, Texas, and graduated from Waltrip High School in Houston in 1969.

She attended Pacific University in Forest Grove as a music major for two years; North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, for one-and-a-half years as a voice major; and Palomar College in San Marcos, Calif., studying chemistry and sociology.

She had been employed as an executive assistant, office manager, homemaker, nurses assistant, medical transcriptionist, accounting clerk, data entry, EKG tech and medical assistant.

She was a member of the National Thespian Society, graining praise for her acting roles in such productions as 'Man of La Mancha' at Pacific University in 1971, and 'West Side Story' in 1969, opposite Patrick Swayze.

She was a gifted musician both instrumentally and as an operatic soprano. She was also an amazing writer whose light often shined its brightest through her expressions of poetry. She gave selflessly and generously of herself, her time and her money to a variety of charities, family and friends.

She is survived by: sons, Micah Brandon Westlund and Erik Daniel Westlund; sister, Tonia Culpepper; granddaughters, Jasmin Vineyard and Piper Westlund; grandson, Gage Westlund; and nephew, Gabriel Killian.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Mark William Westlund and brother, Danny Wagnon.
